Can you guys give a ranking from 1-10..
#1 has to be Ritchie from Keaau High

It's very difficult ranking each player. Some players have different attributes towards their teams, and would be completely different players maybe due to coaching, playing time, teammates, etc. For example, if this question was asked 3-4 years ago, Djavon Kackley from Parker would have easily made this top 10 list, just because he averaged around 24 points per game. Of course thats because the team he had around him was terrible and he had no limit on the amount of shots that he could take. Whereas, if you asked me if he was a top 10 player in BIIF's his senior year at Kohala most people would have said no. Nothing against the kid, just using him as an example in this scenario.
Just trying to show you that the environment a player is in can greatly affect the way he/she plays. Do you think Jacob Andrade would have averaged 24 per at Waiakea with Coach Paul Lee? (Nothing against Coach Paul). However Coach Scanlan-Leite provided him with a team and atmosphere that he could flourish in.
Overall Handy is probably the most well rounded player, however he will struggle this year due to his supporting cast. Teams will be able to throw multiple looks at him throughout games and always keep a fresh defender on him.
However if I was going to start a team I would take the 3 kids from St. Joes, Kagawa and Apele, and Rokas just because of his size alone. That team would be scary.

If Jayce C plays for Kam, they will have the book ends to build upon to win the BIIF. If not, they will rely on Cabatu and Alapai to do the work inside. That being said, Lanaki will handle more of the scoring responsibilities and will have a scoring edge against most PGs because of points made by "D12" which are valid. Ritchie is a great player and a better person but his supporting cast may not be seasoned enough to keep him in the top 5 unless he goes off! Ritchie is a "team" player and it might be difficult for him to take the ball for most or even half of the game. Just not his nature. Kagawa is a beast on both side of the floor and is most dangerous on the open floor and Janado may be the best shooter next to Ohara-Saft who is lighting shots up on Oahu with the Raiders. Scanlan-Leite is a pure point distributor with crazy 3-point range while Fairman and Caravahlo are the biggest rebounders and scorrs in the paint. Any one of these players can dominate the east side but due to experience and the advantage of playing higher competition this summer, the advantage goes to Lanaki Apele.

Andrade would have flourished at Waiakea for sure. I think Coach Lee would find a way to utilize his talent. But no one will ever know.
Apele/Kagawa, Scanlan/Saft and Kawaha/Wong these are three guard combos that will make the eastside interesting to watch again. I've listed Scotty Wong as Hilo's 2 guard. It may not be right, but with his style of play I think Hilo would be best served using him there. As for the big men, I like Fairman. Though not as skilled as Carvahlo, the kid has a great attitude, took all the pounding from both opposing players and refs. He's also gaining lots of experience playing on O'ahu this summer. Kamehameha was a wealth of talent in their front court for sure. Just my 2 humble sense

i think the number 1 player on the island is hands down Richie Handy of Keaau. Sure his team isnt as talented as he needs but watching him play this past weekend...he is a BEAST on offense and on defense.
After Handy i am not sure who would be #2 or 3 and so on but there are a lot of talented players.Kam has a lot of ways to go and they are beating teams by 15+ without playing good team basketball.

Define good team basketball???

refed these guys the last three years. heres what i got. ( no particular order ) will "the thrill" scanlon of st. joe. heart and soul of team. like his fire! speaks his mind yet very respectful. richie handy of keaau. best all around player of the bunch. can play any position equally well. silent leader! kainoa kawaha of hilo. the rondo of the vikes! give him alittle room and he'll carve you up! will learn to make better decisions with the ball this year. isaac "money" janado of waiakea. best shooter in the league! give him the green light, and its money in the bank! lanaki ( knock it! ) apele of kam. point guard of the league. will only get stronger and smarter. dont think he'll be around, though. braddas in oahu are getting a good look at him! might end up there! its all good! what i find so cool is that they all played for goach randy apele, together, for years! and i find that not only are they the creme of the crop, they are humble, and also gentlemen on the court. they bring out the best in each other! and braddas, the best is yet to come! good job coach apele!

Great List of boys now we hope Rokas comes back next year which will be fun to watch
We got all of Randy Apele's original teams just doing great in the BIIF. (I agree he did a good job)now do we have any upcoming kids next year, that we should keep an eye out for?

@ BIFFan
what i mean by team ball is that they mesh easily and things just click. as hoopwaiian about said Coach Apele's teams in the past that had consisted of all these top players...have you ever watched them play? that was total team ball. i dont know if you catch what i mean but hopfully Kam can play better team ball in the season becasue that would be a great show to watch.Posted 1 year ago # -
my bad! cant leave out kamu lorenzo from honokaa. can take over a game at any time...... inside, outside game is solid! also played with coach randy and coach bruce in their recent completed league as well as in calif. last month.

@hoopwaiian
I'm very excited for the upcoming season. This is now Kamu Lorenzo's team and he will be the engine for the Dragons. His footwork and athleticism are off the charts, if he can be more consistent he will definetly be POY for the West.

Can someone tell me about Brandon Libao? Does he have star potential like his brother?
Posted 1 year ago # -
Libao has the potential as with all kids. The thing about Brandon is that he has a better shot then his brother. They are two different kids that have the same desire to get better, to COMPETE, to LEARN and to play within themselves. Brandon does have the same leadership skills, YET! The funny thing at Waiakea anyone can be a star, but they gotta WANT it in order from them to shine. I think Brandon can and will do just that.....My two cents.

@jonnyboy, you have every reason to be excited! kamu's an exciting and explosive player to watch! definite candidate for west POY. should handle the ball at point. and why? like you said, footwork and athleticism. would blow by guys! ( kamu's a six footer! )
Posted 1 year ago # -
@jonnyboy,I agree with you as far as lorenzo being really talented. He also has the talent to be the best in the BIIF.His problem is that according to people close to the program,is that he's not a coachable player. If that's true than to bad because he has the physical talent.Hopefully he can turn the page and be a coachable player.

Five BIIF players whose stock would rise if they'd add the following to their games for 2010-11:
1. Isaak Janado, Waiakea. Add pull-up jumper, dribble attack to the basket.
2. Kainoa Kawaha, Hilo. Add pull-up jumper.
3. Thomas Fairman, St. Joseph. Add 15-foot jumper facing the basket from high-post.
4. Scotty Wong, Hilo. Stabilize footwork on the perimeter and post a little more to take advantage of his size and strength.
5. Kamu Lorenzo, Honokaa. Share the ball and move better without the ball, to set up a stronger inside-outside game.
The mark of a good player is someone who helps make his teammates better. All five of these players are talented and it'll be interesting to see how much they improve their play during 2010-11.

Janado reminds me of Rashard Lewis or Ray Allen due to his accurate and pretty stroke except his at the rim finishing is below average

cameron ita from waiakea is a player worth keeping an eye on as well. quick and shifty! compliments janado well. nick fisher from pahoa. fearless! i thought he was the mvp in the title game! took over! very hard cover, will take you left or right. sebi saft of st. joe. going to relieve scanlon leite of alot of pressure with his much improved ball handling skills and deadly splash from the outside! not to mention thomas fairman on the inside,......... possible triangle? shaun kagawa of kam. with kagawa and apele in the backcourt together at the same time, teams will be facing possibly the best 1-2 guard defensive combo the BIIF has seen in along time! they cover alot of ground! little dobermans!

Deon Utrera of kealakehe is a player to keep an eye on.He has the potential to be one of the best players in the biif.Plus he's only a sophomore.Just wanted to give some other players some coverage.I hope Apele and Kagawa live up to the expectations because their getting a lot of it.
