watch PG Johnson Delos Santos (Roosevelt). can handle the ball extremely well. hes very shifty. always has defenders stuck on there heels or going the other direction. its hilarious to watch! lol. hes very unselfish and sets up teammates for easy buckets. makes everybody around him better. when hes open beyond the arc, he will drain it. but when you come out, he will drive right pass u and gets to the bucket very easily.

  5. Im gonna have to go with Mike Foster and Chris Mendonza from Waianae. Work really well together when they want to. Chris is a lights out shooter and can score in spurts. Mike is a very talented point. Not the fastest but is very smart with the ball. Hardly turns it over and makes good choices, mostly setting up his teammates with easy shots, but can also stroke it from deep if you leave him open.

...gotta go with Akina.. all around... unselfish, fast, plus very coachable.. but the real question is of these guards who will be the most heavily recruited by colleges and why?

    ..just a thought..

I believe that Nehoa Akina will play at some college, probably Division 2 or 3. But if he does get on a Division 1 team that would be awesome. I think that he is the "Best" Shooter in Hawaii at this point, with Kainoa Chu right on his tail.

Marcus Monroe is probably the next best guard in Hawaii, even though he is listed at forward. We all know that he will have to play guard in college. Does he have the guard skills that will get him to the next level remains to be seen. But the kid can put the ball in the hole, and sometimes thats all Colleges look at. You eventually get 10 times better once you start playing College ball anyway, so some team might take a chance on him.

Aaron Fernandez is a guard for his team, but I don't see him really playing hard all the time. I really wish that he would raise his level of intensity a little bit even though he is on a not so talented team. When he's hot he's fun too watch, when he's not he looks average. I would rank him at #4 on my list.

#5. would be Jacob Andrade from St. Joes. Any kid who can put up 44 and 37 points in a game is something to look out for. Although he might be a little shorter than most guards in college, I believe if he finds himself the right team he will fit in fine. While watching him in the Moanalua Tournament I saw that he had a lot of intangibles that kids now days don't possess.

@monkey bizness, Fernandez is averaging 19 points a game, 8 rebounds, 4 assists. Doesn't sit. Facing box and 1, double teams. Got to pace yourself in a game.

Thats true and I understand that. This is just my observation of one game. I also know that he was sick last week and that it might have carried over. I'm sure that he does have more intensity in him, just didn't see it as much this past game vs. Moanalua. Could have been the T.V. playing tricks on me.

We double team Fernandez to force the ball out of his hands. I believe you make the second-tier guys beat you.

When we play Kahuku, they run Akina off different type of screens, double, staggered, singles, etc. That way it's harder to double him cuz the screen man can slip to the basket.

It seems Kalaheo is content to let Fernandez get the ball and try to break the defense down which makes it easier to double him.

Maybe if they ran Fernandez off more screen he could pace himself more and get cleaner looks at the basket. Plus he wouldn't need to work as hard on offense. He would just need to set the defender up off the screens.

    Just my 2 cents...

Marcus Keene has probably the best upside of all the current HI guards.

If he reaches his potential, should be playing DI in 4 years.

Has all the right stuff for a PG. Very high BBall IQ, handles, sees the floor, can make most passes, understands tempo. Very advanced especially for a 14-15 year old.

    Edited.

If you saw the 8 paragraph version, sorry it's gone.

We would prefer his looks come via the offense and work on teaching our players how to achieve this within our offensive sets. It doesn't always show.

Chu, Akina, Tulonghari-First two would be on anyone's list but Tulonghari has major skills and is athletic. He's had an up and down season so far but he might have a better all around game than Akina.
Marcus Keene has shown he's got game and he's only a freshman but DI? Have you seen some of the guards at the Iolani Classic and on ESPNU's high school broadcasts? I hope that growth spurt hits sometime soon.

Hands down Micah Christenson who is a pure shooter, can handle the rock, rebound, and play "D". It also helps to be 6'5". Henry Cassiday is probably the best guard that can defend in the state, He stands about 6'4". These are guards who because we are in Hawaii also can play the 4.

Keene will end up around 6'1. He already has some mainland interest re: his DI potential.

LOVE ANDRADE. HE RUNS HIS MAN OFF SCREEN WELL. HE USES CHANGE OF PACE WELL TO RUB MAN OFF SCREENS AND SEPARATE. HES FUNDAMENTALLY PROPER.
