shout out to the kaimuki knicks and sharks from oahu and maui too. currently hooping it up in hilo for the hi-pal holiday classic. (over 30 years now) 50 plus teams at 4 sites. started monday and runs thru thur. got to officiate the knicks (twice) and are they sharp! small but fast! class act! gave goodie bags to the opposing team. (me too!) tried to pull a fast one and set up a six man zone in the last minute. (accidental) i called it the "kaimuki zone!" cranked them up! we all got a good laugh! hi-pal director joey botelho played for me in college. (bruiser) so did long time BIIF offical paul nobriga who worked with me all day. gots to take care of the little hoopers too! my bradas spreadin the love!

sharks from oahu are tough! got a kid i nicknamed " kareem abdul japan!" a little asian persuasion! head and shoulders above the rest. (literally!) his coordination and iq are amazing for a youth his age and size! things start to get tight and coach inserts "kareem". play for the title today at the civic. (happy to hear from the coaches that their using a shot clock in their leagues on oahu. it shows in the kids play, even at that age! going in the right direction. i applaud you.)

hoopwaiian,
What time do the sharks play today at Civic? ...would like to get a sneak~peak at "kareem abdul japan!"

I have a team and we are currently in the P.A.L pony division. I am looking for leagues to enter my team in after the P.A.L season, April- June time frame and maybe even July-Aug.

WOW, now dis clown is on here being a racist! Really, calling a kid "kareem abdul japan?" I am sure this child has a real name. And I bet a parent would not want their child to be called "Japan" anything. Why do you need to stereotype him and cast him off like an asian or japan or japanese?
Why can't this young man be a "really great" player. So what is next? Are you going to stereotype the Filipinos, Polynesians, Chinese, or African-Americans playing in our state?
Now I am starting to see why you aren't allowed to coach. I would like to see you go to a family of Japanese decent who you do not know, and in front of everyone say, "hey I am going to call your child Kareem Abdul Japan."
SMH!!!

nothin can change it, yup ur a racist. little kids are little, hence are uneducated about racism, ethics, and professionalism in public. dey will learn. lucky dey don't have someone to educate dem such as u.
and little kids r here reading blogs by u? really? lol like anyone gonna believe u.
da mere fact dat u don't even know ur comment is racist and sets a negative stigma about Asian-Americans by "labeling and stereotyping" a kid wit dat hideous nickname just shows da entire world ur ignorance and insensitivity.
but hey, little kids thought it was kool so it's ok. using ur logic lets let the little kids handle da judicial system, fix the state financial deficit, and work on the board for national ethics (something u will never be allowed to do).
nothin u can say can change it. dat is one racist comment for da entire bloggin nation to see.
i apologize to all da keiki and adults on this site dat dey had to read dis racist comment, racist/stereotyping name, and insensitive remark, made by dis irresponsible referee.

wats next ref? u gonna stereotype all da otha races? u gonna give insensitive and offensive nicknames to the Hawaiians? Chinese? Portuguese? Samoans? FIlipinos? Or to another Japanese-American child?
its so sad that u cannot even recognize your insensitive comment and u try to disguise the guilt and severity of your insensitive comment by writing, "the players from the kaimuki knicks liked my post! told me personally."
btw u just answered why u aren't allowed to coach in hawaii. no one would ever put u in a position of authority to lead found men or women. no administrator would ever give you control to lead young minds using such racist innuendo.

If you are proud of your race it shouldn't bother you if someone uses it in a nickname. Clueless would u consider the nickname, "the flying Hawaiian" a racist nickname? I really dont think hoophawaiian is a racist person at all. He gives the player nicknames for fun, and he always praises them for their great play. I guarentee u if you would meet hoophawaiian u would like him as a person. Now don't get me wrong if u would call me, brew "the pudgy portoge", it would bother me a little.LOL!!! have a great new year everyone.

know who you are. been knowing. bradas on the big island who met you tell me your a cool guy. act like it. when your in a position such as yours, you can do so much good rather than spew trash. no need. get plenty out there already. dont need it in our world, comprende?
Posted 4 months ago # -
Clueless,
Everyone has there own opinions, and you have the right to have one (or as many as you want)...same as anyone else on this board.
But lets keep the opinions clean and not so much "personal" attacks on someone you may not know to well/or you may. But,Like I mentioned, you (as well as Brada) definitely got some "crack up one liner's" lmao!!!...but kids look at this stuff...can we keep it sane bro?
This is a small community (not sure if i know you, I may)...but Hoopwaiian is a very nice guy and fun to talk too. I'm sure you are too!Everybody get strengths and weaknesses...(believe me, I have mine!!!lol) that we all need to work on and with for next year.
So lets start off the year 2012 without this waste (of time).

Posted 4 months ago # -
Hey Clue, Diet coke is fine with me!!! lol...I got some roots in Lahaina too! (hence da member name).
Do you know Mauidude? (MV)...played against him back in the day (St. Anthony)...he was a "bruiser" with a nice "Jimmy" from the elbow.

I would let Hoopwaiian coach my son, my grandson, etc. He brought his BayCity game, along with his 3 brothers to the hood to play hoops against us Hawaiian Homes brutha's. Let me tell it was funny listening to these Northern Cali hawaiians who couldn't speak a lick of pidgin. But they could HOOP!
Though I graduated by the time he started coaching WHS, I can tell you he brought some class. The only coach to wear a blazer or suit with a tie while working the sidelines.
Nowadays, he's blowing a whistle, scoping out the games, sampling the concession, reading a newspaper, counting the lines on the court, talking on the cell phone to Ia Saipaia, Gilbert Hicks, Bill Nahler, Kalei Pe'a, Rama Camarillo or trying to get stats from Hi-Low.
It's all good. Happy New Year to everyone.

thanks oldg. would be a pleasure if it ever comes to that. the kaimuki knicks and sharks play under a shot clock, and it shows. come to think of it, didnt need one for their games! pushed the ball up everytime. got into their offense quick! gave the little guns time to get off shots. upped the tempo for our guys! their on the right path! (sidenote to knicks: i'm on to your ZONE! cant fool uncle! lol!)
