ILH Girls: Kapua scores 23 in a win for Mid-Pacific
Johnelle Kapua scored 23 points and led a strong second half comeback by the Mid-Pacifc Owls to defeat the Maryknoll Spartans at Damien Memorial Gym. Kapua scored more than half of her points from the freethrow line for the Owls who were able to get into the bonus early in fourth quarter and overcome a 19-16 halftime lead by the Spartans to earn their first win.
The highlight (and turning point) of the game came at the end of the first half when Owl guard Jordan Kealoha grabbed the rebound off a Maryknoll miss and hit a line-drive runner from half court as time expired to cut a 6 point Spartan lead down to just 3.
Senior guard Nicole Fu was impressive in her ILH debut scoring on a wide array of drives and leading the team with 17 points.
In the ILH Standings, Mid-Pacific moves to 1-0 and Maryknoll drops to 0-1.
